What We Do
The CanDo Cancer Trust assists patients that are attending the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) who are struggling financially due to their cancer diagnosis.
We assist those in need in the region by paying household bills or providing food or fuel cards. In an effort to ensure funds remain in the local area and help those most in need in our community, the trust committee along with the generous support of the Coffs Coast Freemasons, established the Trust to distribute money to patients affected by cancer.
The catchment area for CanDo is any patient that attends the MNCCI at the Coffs Harbour Hospital. Patients may come from Grafton, Nambucca, Dorrigo, Bellingen or further afield. All the funds raised are used for the patients, we do not have any administration fees so you know your money is helping the local community.
How We Do It
If a cancer patient attends the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) and is having trouble financially, they can speak to a social worker about the various options for assistance.
After checking the financial situation of the patient, they will fill in a short application form and it will be emailed to the relevant committee members who will respond within 24 hours.
Household bills will be paid directly to the supplier or Woolworths Essential cards will be given which will allow the patient to purchase food or fuel, the cards do not allow for cigarettes or alcohol to be purchased. Patients may receive up to $1000 over the period of their treatment if deemed necessary.
